MISTAKE #1) Doing image advertising

This is advertising without a purpose. Just about every yellow pages and TV ad is an image ad. They give no clear call to action, and in some cases do not even provide a way to contact them. If you want your advertisements to generate leads, you must have a clear and specific call to action, otherwise no one will respond. Just as buyers are looking for immediate actions such as “Call Us Now” or at least collect an email if possible.

MISTAKE #2) Not having a short deadline

People need deadlines to respond. Think about yourself when working: you probably always get the most done when you are up against a short and immediate deadline.

Your customers are the same way. Even if you make them an irresistible offer, they still will not respond if you give them a ton of time, because people naturally procrastinate. However, if you make it clear that this offer will end shortly, they will be forced to respond.

Obviously, you should not lie and make up a false deadline if the product will still be available after that. This will just make you look dishonest. However, having a true and short deadline will make all the difference in your marketing.

MISTAKE #3) Not having a clear target audience

Man businesses just pick up the one book and call everyone in there. This might be cheap, but it still costs valuable time. Most of the people in there will not be interested in what you are selling, so you are wasting marketing on people that will not be buying. Time is money, after all.

This is why only advertising in targeted places is critical. An example would be a niche specific magazine. As long as you have targeted the right magazine, you know most people viewing your offer are potential customers. As a result, the marketing is much more targeted, and your sales leads will skyrocket.
